Biography
Born on 8 May 1956 in the city of Kaunas, the Lithuanian SSR (now the Republic of Lithuania).

In 1977, he graduated from the Moscow Higher Combined-Arms Command School. He served as the commander of platoon, company, chief of headquarters / deputy commander of battalion in the Southern Group of Forces and the Kiev Military District.

After his graduation from the Military Academy named after M.V. Frunze in the year of 1987, he served in the Central Asian Military District as the commander of motorized rifle battalion, chief of headquarters / deputy commander of training motorized rifle regiment, commander of training motorized rifle regiment.

From 1992 to 1995б, he was the commander of motorized rifle regiment and then commander of motorized rifle brigade in the Siberian Military District.

After his graduation from the Military Academy of the RF Armed Forces’ General Staff in the year of 1987, he served as the commander of Russian military base in Transcaucasia, commander of motorized rifle division in the North Caucasian Military District, Chief of the Staff / First Deputy Commander of the Group of Russian Troops in Transcaucasia. From 2002 to 2004, the Deputy Commander of the North Caucasian Military District.

From 2004, the Commander of Combined-Arms Army in the Siberian Military District and from January 2006, the Deputy Commander of the Siberian Military District. From July 2007, he was the Chief of the Staff / First Deputy Commander of the Siberian Military District.

From December 2008, the Commander of the Volga-Urals Military District.

From July 2012, the Acting Commander of the Western Military District.

From October 2012, the Commander of the Western Military District.

By the RF Presidential Decree of 9 November 2012 he has been appointed the First Deputy Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation.

Personal decorations: the Order of Courage, the Order of Military Merit, the Order of Merit for the Fatherland 4th grade, and a number of Medals.
