China’s V-Day Military Parade not a muscle show-off

BEIJING, August 21 (ChinaMil) — President Park Geun-hye will pay a visit to China from September 2 to 4 and attend the celebrations of the 70th anniversary of victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War to be held in Beijing on September 3, 2015, according to South Korean media.

China has sent invitations of the celebration to major countries of the World War II, some Asian countries, leaders of other countries and regions and relevant international organizations through diplomatic channels.

The South Korean president accepted the invitation and China will certainly do the honors as the host. Meanwhile, the South Korean side has positive responses to Park Geun-hye’s visit to China. The ruling Saenuri Party and the largest opposition New Democratic United Party all welcomed Park Geun-hye’s decision of visiting China.

While China, South Korea and other countries are planning to celebrate the 70th anniversary of victory in World War II, some countries are making various noises and trying to disturb.

The Japanese media said not long ago that the United States asked the South Korean president not to attend the commemoration activity in China through diplomatic channels. Japan also put pressure on South Korea to force its leaders not to go to China. Japan already had some opinions over China’s V-Day celebration and some senior Japanese officials and Japanese media have accused China of using historical issues to contain Japan.

In fact, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is very clear that China and South Korea have repeatedly made solemn protests against Japan’s position on historical issues. Park Geun-hye’s decision to attend China’s V-Day commemoration will enable people of the two countries to have a better understanding of Japan’s history of aggression and focus on the future direction of Japan.

South Korea’s final decision proves that the joint commemoration of the victory of World War II is a major trend and it will not easily be changed because of interference from a few countries.

China and South Korea are victims of the war of aggression launched by Japan and therefore it is reasonable and understandable for them to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the victory of the war.

China and South Korea already have their own anniversaries of the war. The two countries will never forget history no matter what tricks will Japan play.

On August 15, 1945, the Korean Peninsula was liberated from Japan’s colonial rule. This day is known as “Liberation Day” and South Korea holds annual commemoration for this day.

This year, President Park Geun-hye attended the commemoration in Seoul’s Sejong Center and delivered a speech at the event, urging the Japanese government to fulfill its commitments and inherit the view of history from previous cabinets with consistence and good faith.

On September 3, 1945, Japan officially signed the Instrument of Surrender. China established the day by legislation as the Victory Day of Chinese People’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression.

Other countries have no reason to oppose the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression. China set the theme of the commemoration as “Remember the history, honor the martyrs, cherish peace and create a better future “. The theme is in line with the current trend of the times, which are peace, development, cooperation and win-win. It is also conducive to the prosperity and stability in Asia.

China’s celebrations are open and transparent and China releases information on a timely basis. The activities are rich in content and balanced. They are not “muscle show off”, nor do they target specific countries. If Japan is perfectly open in all its actions, then it has no reason to oppose the commemoration activities in China.

In addition to the South Korean president, many national leaders and heads of international organizations have confirmed that they will attend the commemoration activities in China. The international community also spoke highly of China’s important contribution to the World’s Anti-Fascist War.

For Japan, instead of making things difficult for the celebration, it needs to reflect on the history of aggression and say no to militarism. Only by doing this can Japan regain the trust from its neighboring countries and the international community as well.
