TROIA, Portugal – A live military demonstration of Allied forces working together shows that NATO is able to defend all Allies against any threat during Exercise Trident Juncture 2015, taking place in Spain, Italy and Portugal.
The NATO Secretary General, Mr. Stoltenberg was joined by Portuguese Minister of National Defence Jose Pedro Aguiar-Branco, Ambassadors from the North Atlantic Council and senior Allied military commanders to watch the demonstration at the Troia Military Training Area in Portugal.
NATO Allied forces conducted a harbour protection demonstration involving a simulated Special Forces boarding of suspected embargo-breakers. Special Forces personnel fast-roped from a Lynx helicopter before securing the vessel.
The demonstration also included a Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear (CBRN) demonstration highlighting how an Army CBRN company conducts a sweep of vessels to check for possible contraband.
An amphibious assault also took part from Landing Craft for Vehicles and Personnel (LCVP) carriers and from Landing Craft Utilities (LCU) .
Trident Juncture 15, NATO’s largest exercise in over a decade, is currently taking place in Spain, Italy and Portugal. The exercise is testing Allied forces’ abilities to work together and with many partner nations and organizations in meeting a wide range of security challenges.
More than 36,000 personnel from more than 30 nations are participating in Exercise Trident Juncture 2015. The exercise includes more than 230 units, more than 140 aircraft and more than 60 ships.
