13th Plenary Session of the U.S.-China Joint Liaison Group (JLG) on Law Enforcement Cooperation

Chinese and U.S. Delegates met for the 13th annual meeting of the U.S.-China Joint Liaison Group (JLG) from November 23-24, 2015 in Washington, DC. The JLG is the primary law enforcement dialogue between the United States and China.

The U.S. Co-Chairs consisted of Assistant Secretary William Brownfield the U.S. Department of State, Deputy Assistant Attorney General Bruce Swartz from the U.S. Department of Justice, and Assistant Secretary Alan Bersin from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Co-chairs from the Chinese delegation are Director General Xu Hong of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Director General Liao Jinrong of the Ministry of Public Security, and Deputy Director General Cai Wei of the Ministry of Supervision.

The parties reviewed significant instances of case cooperation through the JLG law enforcement partnership. Discussions during the event included mutual legal assistance, anti-corruption, counternarcotics, intellectual property rights, repatriation, fugitives, and cybercrime.

The two sides agreed to hold a 14th JLG plenary meeting in the fall of 2016 in China.
