The following is attributable to Spokesperson John Kirby:
Secretary Kerry met today in Brussels with Polish Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski. The Secretary expressed his gratitude to Poland for reaching its two-percent of GDP defense spending goal and for hosting the NATO Summit in Warsaw this coming July.
Both ministers reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to the Alliance and to upholding our common Article 5 commitments. They discussed the importance of maintaining a persistent military presence on NATO’s eastern edge, to include continued rotational deployments of U.S. troops. And the Secretary reiterated U.S. commitment to European missile defense.
Both ministers agreed on the importance of intensifying coalition efforts against Da’esh. Foreign Minister Waszczykowski made clear Poland would consider further contributions.
On Ukraine, they also agreed that the Minsk agreement must be fully implemented and that international sanctions against Russia should stay in place.
