Mediterranean Dialogue Partnership Conference held at JFC Naples

NAPLES, Italy – Allied Joint Force Command Naples hosted a Mediterranean Dialogue (MD) Partnership Conference, on Wednesday, 2 December 2015.

The conference brought together MD partners and representatives from across NATO in order to strengthen working relationships with military partners.

“Nowadays, no country on its own is able to bring all problems to a solution,” said German Armed Forces Brigadier General Reinhard Kloss, Assistant Chief of Staff for military partnership and civil-military cooperation. “NATO needs cooperation with countries all around the world and especially in the Mediterranean area.”

The JFC Naples conference aligned with a declaration from the 2014 Wales Summit, in which Allied heads of state and government stated:

“Today, as the Mediterranean region faces huge security challenges with wide-ranging implications for Euro-Atlantic security, the importance of this forum, which brings together key countries from NATO’s southern border, is clearer than ever…We stand ready to continue working with our MD partners to make the most of the opportunities offered by their partnership with NATO.”

NATO’s Mediterranean Dialogue was initiated in 1994 by the North Atlantic Council. It currently involves seven non-NATO countries of the Mediterranean region: Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Mauritania, Morocco, and Tunisia. JFC Naples leads the coordination on military cooperation for all of the MD countries.

The mission of Allied Joint Force Command Naples is to prepare for, plan and conduct military operations in order to preserve the peace, security and territorial integrity of Alliance member states.
