Senior Chinese military official meets with German guests

Sun Jianguo, deputy chief of general staff of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA), met with members of the German delegation participating in the 10th China-Germany Security Policy Seminar for Senior Military Officers headed by Gen. Wolfgang Schneiderhan, former general inspector of the German Bundeswehr (Federal Defense Force), in Beijing on the morning of Dec. 1, 2015.

Chinese President Xi Jinping’s successful visit to Germany in 2014 promoted the establishment of comprehensive strategic partnerships between the two countries, Sun Jianguo said. To promote the continuous development of the friendly cooperative relations between the Chinese PLA and the German Bundeswehr, Adm. Sun hoped that the armed forces of the two countries would further strengthen high-level contacts, enhance institutionalized cooperation, expand the area of professional exchange and carry out more cooperation on personnel training.

Gen. Schneiderhan said that the institutionalization of the China-Germany Security Policy Seminar for Senior Military Officers has played a positive role in the development of bilateral military relations. The German Bundeswehr is willing to enhance communication and understanding with Chinese PLA to achieve more fruitful results from bilateral military cooperation, he added.
