Pakistan Navy ships arrive in Shanghai for port call

(navy.81.cn/ Xu Wei)BEIJING, Dec. 29 (ChinaMil) — Headed by Commodore Bilal Abdul Nadir of the 25th Destroyer Flotilla of the Pakistani Navy, a Pakistani naval taskforce consisting of the frigate Shamsheer and the supply ship Nasr arrived at the Wusong naval port in Shanghai on Monday for a 7-day friendly visit to Shanghai.
This is the Nasr’s fourth visit and also Pakistani naval ships’ seventh visit to Shanghai.
Also on Monday, Rear Adm. Shen Hao, deputy commander of the East China Sea Fleet of the Chinese PLA Navy, met with Commodore Nadir and principal officers of the Pakistani naval taskforce. The Chinese side held a welcoming reception for the visiting Pakistani naval taskforce on Monday evening.
The servicemen of the Chinese and Pakistani navies will visit each other’s warships and hold basketball matches. In addition, the visiting Pakistani naval servicemen will visit some scenic spots in Shanghai, including Oriental Pearl TV Tower and Shanghai City Planning Exhibition Hall.
The two Pakistani naval vessels will participate in a joint naval drill with Chinese Navy in a sea area of the East China Sea from Dec. 31 to Jan. 1, 2016. The contents of the joint drill include ship formation movement, search and rescue, firing at aerial and sea targets as well as joint anti-piracy operations.
Before arriving in Shanghai, the Pakistani naval taskforce visited Bandar Seri Begawan of Brunei. Its next stop is Ho Chi Minh City of Vietnam.
Together with the two Pakistani warships coming to Shanghai are a total of 591 servicemen, including 77 officers and 514 soldiers.
