Today in the Department of Defense, January 11, 2016

Secretary of Defense Ash Carter welcomes Jordan’s King Abdullah II to the Pentagon with an enhanced honor cordon at 2:45 p.m. EST at the Pentagon River Entrance. All journalists covering the honor cordon, including those with a Pentagon building badge, will be escorted from the base of the River Entrance Pedestrian Bridge only after security screening, which will begin at approximately 2 p.m. EST.  Have proof of affiliation and two forms of photo identification. All journalists must be in place no later than 2:30 p.m. EST.  Journalists wishing to cover the photo spray immediately after the honor cordon should meet in the Defense Press Operations office (Room 2D961) by 2:20 p.m. EST for escort. Deputy Secretary of Defense Bob Work and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Marine Gen. Joseph F. Dunford Jr. have no public or media events on their schedules.

Secretary of Defense Ash Carter met His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan at the Pentagon today. Secretary Carter reaffirmed the closeness of the U.S.-Jordan strategic relationship and the leaders discussed mutual concerns in the region including the ongoing crisis in Syria. Secretary Carter expressed his deep appreciation to His Majesty King Abdullah II for Jordan’s continued contributions to regional counter-ISIL efforts. They had a good exchange and agreed to continue the close partnership between the United States and Jordan.
