THESSALONIKI, Greece – A Change of Command ceremony was held in Thessaloniki on Tuesday, March 8 at the NATO Rapid Deployable Corps Greece (NRDC-GR).
Following two years in post, Lieutenant General Ilias Leontaris handed over command to Lieutenant General Alkiviadis Stefanis.
The Chief of Hellenic National Defence, General Staff Admiral Evaggelos Apostolakis, representatives of the religious, military and political authorities from the city of Thessaloniki, General Consuls from contributing NRDC-GR Nations and other distinguished visitors were in attendance.

“I highlight the HQ’s success last year when evaluated for its operational readiness, and as expected by many, exceeded all expectations,” said Lieutenant General Leontaris. He went on to thank all personnel for their efforts from the “bottom of his heart”.
“I hold high admiration for the excellent work which is achieved so far and invite you all to continue your efforts to further enhance the operational readiness and combat capabilities,” said incoming Commander Lieutenant General Stefanis. To the outgoing Commander he expressed his sincere gratitude and appreciation for his valuable contribution.
Chief of Defence, Admiral Apostolakis, expressed his satisfaction for the way the outgoing Commander exercised his duty, and noted his contribution to the successful evaluation of NRDC-GR during exercise Gordian Knot 2015. He also extended his best wishes to the assuming Commander for success in his new duties.
