China, Vietnam hold third high-level border meeting

LANG SON, Vietnam, March 29 (ChinaMil) — The Chinese and Vietnamese militaries commenced their third high-level border meeting in Lang Son, Vietnam on March 28. Chinese Defense Minister Chang Wanquan and his Vietnamese counterpart Phung QuangThanh attended a symposium marking the opening of the border meeting on Monday afternoon.
Qi Jianguo, deputy chief of Joint Staff of China’s Central Military Commission (CMC), delivered a speech at the symposium. He praised that the China-Vietnam high-level border meeting has been held for three consecutive years and has become a highlight demonstrating the friendly relations between the two countries and the two militaries.
China attaches great importance to developing the good-neighborly relationship with Vietnam and continues to uphold the guideline of long-term stability, looking into the future, good-neighborly friendship and comprehensive cooperation, Qi stated.
China stands ready to work together with Vietnam to build a peaceful, cooperative, prosperous and tranquil border area, promote the sound and steady development of China-Vietnam comprehensive strategic partnership to bring more benefits to the people of both countries, Qi added.
Nguyen Chi Vinh, Vietnam’s deputy defense minister, said in his speech that the high-level border meeting between the Vietnamese and Chinese militaries has become an annual institutional activity between the two militaries, and he believed the meeting this year will enhance the political mutual trust, create new opportunities for deepening the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, and promote the construction of the Vietnam-China border area featuring peace and friendship, development and cooperation as well as long-term stability.
After Nguyen Chi Vinh announced the official opening of the third Vietnam-China high-level border meeting, representatives from border defense departments of both sides had in-depth discussions about a range of topics, including safeguarding border security, cracking down on cross-border crimes, communication and meeting mechanism, economic exchange and development, as well as protecting natural environment.
Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam Hong Xiaoyong and Vietnamese Ambassador to China Dang Minh Khoi attended the symposium.
The first China-Vietnam high-level border meeting was held in Dongxing in China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Moncay in Vietnam’s Quang Ninh Province in March 2014, and the second meeting was held in Mengzi in China’s Yunnan Province and Vietnam’s Lao Cai in May 2015.
China, Nepal vow to strengthen military ties

BEIJING, March 29 (ChinaMil) — General Fang Fenghui, member of China’s Central Military Commission (CMC) and chief of Joint Staff Department of the CMC, held talks with Nepal’s Chief of Army Staff General Rajendra Chhetri in Beijing on Monday afternoon.
Fang said that since the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Nepal 61 years ago, the two countries have conducted extensive cooperation of mutual benefit based on equality and mutual respect and the two countries have become trusted friends and partners.
Chinese President Xi Jinping attaches great importance to developing China-Nepal friendship and has reached a series of important consensus with leaders of Nepal, China is willing to work with the Nepalese side to earnestly implement the important consensus reached by leaders of the two countries, explore new model of cooperation based on the “One Belt and One Road” strategy, Fang continued
Fang expressed that China is also willing to expand bilateral defense and security cooperation, strengthen strategic communication and exchange at all levels between militaries of the two countries, deepen cooperation in humanitarian aid and disaster relief actions, prevent and crack down on “Tibetan separatism” activities to jointly safeguard regional peace and stability.
General Chhetri said that Nepal always attaches great importance to developing friendly and cooperative relations with China. He thanked China for providing his country with long-term help and assistance.
Nepal always adheres to the one-China policy and will never allow any forces to use the Nepalese territory to engage in anti-China activities, Chhetri stated.
Nepal is willing to further deepen pragmatic cooperation in various fields with China to constantly push forward the development of bilateral state and military relations, Chhetri said.
The Nepalese Ambassador to China Maskey also attended the meeting.
Before their talks, Fang Fenghui held a welcome ceremony for Chhetri and accompanied him to review the guard of honor of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA).
