Symposium on Linguistic Integration of Adult Migrants – Lessons from research
STRASBOURG, 30 MARCH-1ST APRIL 2016,The Council of Europe has been implementing since 2007 a project on “Linguistic Integration of Adult Migrants” (LIAM). It offers member states clear principles and guidelines as well as targeted practical support to help them respond to the challenges of linguistic integration. The symposium will bring together some 180 participants, researchers and academics from all over Europe and beyond. 70 individual contributions of researchers will be presented before being compiled as an interdisciplinary inventory offering governments additional resources for the elaboration of policies.

Conference on “Good Governance at Local Level: challenges and prospects”
SOFIA, 31 MARCH 2016,In the framework of the Bulgarian Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers, the Council of Europe and the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works of Bulgaria will organise a conference focusing on the implementation of theStrategy for Innovation and Good Governance at Local Level. It will also offer participants from various member states a platform to exchange knowledge, best practice and experience around three principles of good governance: efficiency; public ethics; openness and transparency. The European Court of Human Rights will deliver a Grand Chamber judgment in the case of Armani Da Silva v. the United Kingdom at a public hearing (3.00 p.m.).
The case concerns the fatal shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes, a Brazilian national mistakenly identified by the police as a suicide bomber. Ms Armani Da Silva, who is Mr de Menezes’ cousin, complains in particular about the decision not to prosecute any individuals for her cousin’s death.
