More than 130 exhibitors from 55 countries, including NATO Allied Command Transformation (ACT), occupied the west end of the massive Excel Arena in London, U.K. to showcase their latest products and innovations available to the defence training and simulation market May 17th – 19th.
Known as the International forum for the military simulation, Training and Education Community, or ITEC, this annual forum is an opportunity for representatives from the government (primarily military), industry and academia to connect and share knowledge with the international training, education and simulation sectors.
Brigadier General Henrik Sommer, Assistant Chief of Staff Capability, Engineering and Innovation at Headquarters Supreme Allied Commander Transformation (SACT) provided senior leadership with thought provoking insight and led a panel discussion focusing on Exercise Trident Juncture and Industry Involvement Initiative for NATO Exercises (I3X).
“ITEC is very important for NATO and ACT as we look into the future to identify what are the technology trends, what is feasible today, and what kind of support is available to the NATO Nations” said General Sommer.
Other representatives present from NATO included ACT’s Joint Force Training directorate, ACT’s Innovation Hub and the Modelling and Simulation and Crisis Management and Disaster Relief Centres of Excellence, whose officers led a number of discussion panels focusing on training frameworks and innovation.
“At Allied Command Transformation it’s much more about management, policy development, requirements capturing, and deciding what models we should be using,” said Wayne Buck, ACT’s ITEC Coordinator.
ACT has been a key contributor to ITEC for more than 15 years. ITEC is an annual event that combines displays and demonstrations of current and future technologies with conference style discussion panels and presentation, and has been taking place in Europe for the past 26 years.
