Exercise Steadfast Cobalt – A Huge Success

BUCHAREST, Romania –  Exercise Steadfast Cobalt 16 (SC16) successfully held a dynamic Distinguished Visitors Day on June 1st at the 48th Communications and Information Centre (CIS) in Otopeni, Bucharest.

The exercise purpose and aims were briefed to high ranking NATO visitors on arrival, followed by capability demonstrations on many types of CIS equipment and deployable assets.

During the morning The President of Romania, Mr Klaus Iohannis, visited the Romanian and other NATO contingents and was briefed on both equipment and the execution phase at operational levels.

Major General Walter Huhn, Commander NATO Communication and Information Systems Group said, “This is our largest Steadfast Cobalt yet and I am very pleased with the speed of integration, levels of interoperability and the many strengths each nation brings with it.” Adding,” NATO standardisation and a common force structure have ensured we can efficiently test and evaluate our provision of deployable communication assets within the eNRF structure.”

Huhn stated, “Threats to NATO remain and we are ready to contribute to the defence of the Alliance. The provision of deployable effective communication systems in times of crisis is a vital force enabler.”

“The exercise has been a huge success and I and my team are very proud of our personnel and with our procedures. I know we are all looking forward to demonstrating our skills and professionalism on Exercise Trident Juncture 16 and beyond,” Huhn said.

Over 1000 personnel from up to 30 nations, both civilian and military, are participating in the exercise which wraps up on June 3rd.
