German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier and German Minster of Defence Ursula von der Leyen met the Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs, the Hon Julie Bishop MP, and the Australian Minister of Defence, Senator the Hon Marise Payne, for the first German-Australian 2+2 Foreign and Defence Ministerial Meeting in Berlin on 6 September 2016.
