SHAPE, Belgium – Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Europe (DSACEUR) General Sir James Everard visited Exercises Steadfast Pyramid and Steadfast Pinnacle, NATO’s premier Senior Leadership Training exercises.
The annual exercises held in Riga, Latvia, brings together newly appointed senior personnel and selected staff to enhance their analytical, planning and decision making skills by challenging them with thought-provoking scenarios.
“These exercises allow the NATO leadership to adapt to the changing security environment by honing their decision making skills,” said General Sir James Everard. “Allied Command Operations plays a vital role in translating political guidance into military direction, as well as providing guidance to the Military Committee. As a consequence, the training of commanders and senior staffs is vital to the Alliance,” added Everard.
The Steadfast Pyramid and Pinnacle exercises were first organised in 1995. Over the last 20 years, they have adapted to the ever-changing security environment. The scenarios have been designed to represent potential conditions or planning situations that may be of concern to NATO. The political, economic, military and civil conditions are also fictional, however, they represent conditions that could exist and be of potential interest as well.
Exercises Steadfast Pyramid and Pinnacle were held from September 11 – 22, 2017 involving approximately 60 leaders from NATO and partner nations.
