#Millennials. Loredana Todor, interior designer: Poorly landscaped office spaces can make you sick

Loredana… she is the interior designer. She studied at Istituto Europe di Design in Italy, then at the University of The Arts London. And that’s after he went through the faculty of Psychology in Cluj. She  merged everything, she learned to become both a housing and office designer.

It says that the way offices are arranged, especially corporations (like open space) is defined by discomfort, poor air quality and colors that induce sadness. Interior design can increase productivity in a company, as it can reduce or even make you sick. If the design is well done, it even decreases the vandalism rate in prisons (that’s still a trendy topic). Her diploma was focused on studying the influence of biofilic design in juvenile rehabilitation in juvenile reeducation centers.

Is there this syndrome, called sick building syndrome? Does everyone feel it?

Yes, there is and creates a problem all over the modern world because of the high cost that it generates. Human costs, ailing employees, and financial costs for companies due to medical leave and low productivity. The World Health Organization has classified many symptoms caused by Sick Building Syndrome (SBS), from simple irritations and allergies to nerve effects that can affect the health of some long-term individuals.

Loredana, what’s the reason you might feel bad in a building or an office?

There are several factors that contribute to it. Mainly it is the ventilation system, more precisely the total non-elimination of tainted air and the lack of fresh air. Increased toxicity can also be produced by materials used in interior design-such as carpeting, PVC, laminated parquet and low-quality furniture. Other causes may be inefficient lighting. Environmental factors are inter-related to psychological factors. Many loads and stress could be diminished if the employee would feel respected by proper arranging of office spaces. This would make the employee happy to come to work and increase his productivity.
