A response to an article by Adam Tooze published in foreign policy journal titled “Europe is not realistic. It is weak” dated { 3-03-2019}

https://foreignpolicy.com/2019/03/03/europe-isnt-realistic-its-weak/amp/

Dear Mr.Tooze

With full respect for your opinion and for your article published in Foreign policy on 3-03-2019. At first I am an Egyptian born man. I do not have any political affiliations, not belonged to any political party or stream in my life. In other words, I never practiced politics in my life. also never worked with government before . But I find it my right to show you some clarifications about your article. I think the right of reply is legitimate for everyone. I answered your article as an Egyptian citizen has the rights to answer your argument .

First,

 You used the word “in the relations of Europe with its Arab neighbors and their former colonial possessions” . Using the term {colonial possessions} is signifies of an archaic view of the distant past.

 If Europe still had its former colonies it will impose on ground reality it sees on by force,{ read history books Mr.Tooze it happened for many centuries } it is very far from the democracy and human rights that you speak about. There are many examples in this regard, including the English occupation of Egypt for 85 years, the practices of England throughout that period was a terrible democracy and human rights and you can review the documents of the English government of that period to make sure of my words. You can also review the decisions of the English government during the 2nd world war .At the time of emergency situations, wars & the countries exposure to conspiracies, the priorities of government’s changes. So what about Egypt like fighting the waves of terrorism since the seventies of the last century to date????

Second,

 You mentioned in your article. The European Union prides itself on a values-based foreign policy that emphasizes democracy, the rule of law and human rights

I am here to talk about Egypt and I would like to tell you that the standards and specifications that you are talking about in the EU are certainly something special. But can you tell me how long it took Europe or even America to reach this foreign policy? I fully believe that you as a historian and writer know very well Europe suffered to reach that foreign policy you are talking about. Why do not you give us time and space like the ones that Europe took to reach such an external policy that you are proud of?

Mr. Adam you have to understand well that what is happening in Europe and its policy is not necessary to match 100% with the Middle East and Africa.

So let me clarify what is the problem and why Europe does not want to understand what is the situation of Egypt or other countries of the Middle East and Africa?

1 – You are talking about the values of Europe. And what about the values of Egyptian society and other societies? Do you have any information about it? Does Europe have any assessment of it? Or even information about the community traditions in Egypt? Of course, there is no systematic assessment based on studies. I know and many others that you in Europe are drawing your information from people, media networks and human rights organizations who know what you want to hear about Egypt or Africa , those organizations main target only to get the European funds allocated for that file. I mean the file of democracy and human rights.

Those who speak to the governments of the European Union or the European Parliament, Of course they have their own agendas to achieve personal goals of their own. What is important for them is to distort Egypt’s image in front of the international community.

2. It is time for the European Union to draw its information from impartial sources whose credibility is not intended to say the abstract truth; I fully believe that Europe has the ability to verify the situation on the ground both in Egypt and in the countries of the region

Third,

 Your talk about the Egyptian President Al-Sisi indicates that you does not know definitively what happened in Egypt between 2012-2019 or even how Al-Sisi became an elected president. Your words are not logical and completely contradicted with the Egyptian reality ,from which source you derived your information, I will respond to you step by step so you might know who is Sisi and who is Egypt?

A: You still talking & using the theme that what happened in Egypt is a military coup that overthrew a democratic government? Mr. Adam , what the meaning of the coup ? Here I will not write the definition in my way, but I will use what was defined by Oxford dictionaries {https://en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/coup {A sudden, violent, and illegal seizure of power from a government}

What happened in Egypt is not a coup. But to restore the legitimacy of the Egyptian people to choose who governs. What happened in Egypt is not a coup, Egypt are not a banana republic in South America. ? Egypt has a special case more than 35 million of Egyptian people spend a week in the streets to protest against the Muslim brotherhood terrorist regime. did not you watch news that time in 30/06/2013 ? The Egyptian people have been pressing for long months on the military establishment to save it from the rule of the tyrannical Muslim brotherhood that were on their way to turn Egypt into another Iran. Do you know what Iran means or want me to explain to you

Let me explain to you Iran a religious sectarian state governed by the Khomeini group headed by Mullah> In Egypt was parallel to her group of the Muslim Brotherhood was managed by the General Guide of the Muslim Brotherhood { almarshed } , the Guidance Bureau then comes after the role of the head of state, which has no role but the implementation of orders from Mullah or {ALmorshed } and of course the guidance office . Means in the chain of power the president is the fourth or fifth person in the chain of power?? !!My question Which democratic government that was overthrown, Mr. Adam ???

Just another point for you to know more about what happened in Egypt 2012-2013 .The Relations between Muslim brotherhood and A-Qaeda let me tell you about the joint planning between” Ayman al-Zawahiri “and” former president Morse” for the integration of radical Islamic elements within the Egyptian army system. Same as the Iranian regime establishment of the Quds Force& the so-called Revolutionary Guards, added to the threats of intercourse by launching a campaign of terror from Sinai to hit the depth of Egypt.

Are you talking about that democratic government who has strong ties with terrorism?

 The former president’s has telephoned Ayman al-Zawahiri, the leader of al-Qaeda, the world’s most feared terrorist organization, and consulted with him on matters of the Egyptian state. These calls are recorded and known inside Egypt. The fact that you do not know about such information is a vital mistake from a well-known and famous writer like you.

 Most notably the former president Morse were selling secret documents with some of his workers hand it over to Qatar through intermediaries and get money in return.

Fourth,

 About The numbers of political prisoners in Egypt, You have unleashed your imaginations to the extent that you have reached the number of 60,000 detainees ? from where you came up With this unreasonable number. I challenge you to prove this figure. Because it is not real.

Fifth,

 Egyptian president Sisi does not have a political party to which he belongs, and this is known to all. The supporters of Sisi are the Egyptian people, The Egyptian people see president Sisi as national hero saved their country from loss at the time of everyone expects the fall of Egypt and its division , also to repeat the Libyan & Syrian scenario and you are aware of what I mean completely? How do you say that Sisi or his supporters would like him to continue in power until year 2034? Do you know when the Sisi president was born? And I know you do not know I will tell you (November 19, 1954), year 2034 he will be 80 years old. Does president SISI guarantee that he will live till 2034?

The different sects of the Egyptian people are the ones who demanded that Sisi become the president of Egypt . That included Muslims, Christians, politicians, mothers, fathers, grandparents, children and all the Egyptian people.

 Sixth,

The Sisi does not yearn or in dubious for legitimacy as you claimed in your article. Because Al-Sisi is an elected president and he received votes exceeding 95%. Those elections were observed , supervised by the European Union and various international organizations. And covered by various international media networks. All reports were hailed as fair elections with no resemblance to fraud.If you object to my words, you can refer to the European Union and its reports on those elections. To check by yourself ??

I think you should visit Egypt as a tourist and ask the people in the Egyptian street about their opinion about Sisi. You should also follow up on giant mega projects in the field of infrastructure or gas, or in the field of administrative development and fighting corruption.

 How did the Egyptian judiciary system become the supreme hand without any interference from the Egyptian government? Don’t you think that the signs of democracy by respecting the judiciary system and its rulings?? At the same time, the Egyptian state are fighting terrorism and uprooting it , that terrorism and terrorists whom been promised by the Muslim brotherhood government to take place in Sinai .

 Seventh,

 You Talk about Europe’s actions with a new realistic policy. ? Is it required of Egypt or other countries to implement the orders of Europe as was previously done in the colonial era, without any discussion or attempt to explain the internal and political positions? I think one of democracy basics is respecting ,accepting and understanding the other side? Or do you have another opinion?

Finally, Mr. Adam, you must know that democracy and human rights are not a computer program that to be copied and pasted to another computer. Egypt and other countries is not a computer to re-install your democracy and human rights software!!!!

Egypt is free to choose its president whether accepted or rejected by other countries. Whether you like it or not? This is an internal Egyptian affair. You are a famous writer and historian. You have to check the accuracy of your writing instead of the false rhetoric accusations because of your readers trusts what you write for them

 Thank you & Regards
