13 new deaths caused by Covid-19 were announced on Saturday in Romania and 430 new cases were confirmed. The total number of deaths reached 146 and the number of confirmed infections to 3,613, of which 474 are medical professionals.

In the most affected area of Romania, Suceava, 20 military personnel were deployed to the County Hospital for two weeks, an assessment of the situation was made and the first measures were taken. Teams are sent to find solutions to Deva and Arad. A special situation is also in Ialomita, where a real outbreak was detected in Tandarei. A new military ordinance has been issued that quarantines the locality, suspends flights with 14 other countries, but prohibits the departure of doctors from the country.

With 36,092 tests done so far, Romania does not sit very well in this regard among European countries. That’s 1,876 tests per 1 million citizens. As a comparison, as Prime Minister Ludovic Orban kept saying that we are well compared to Spain, there have been 355,000 tests so far, i.e. 7,593 tests compared to 1 million inhabitants. In Italy there were 619,849 tests, i.e. 10,252 tests/1 million inhabitants.

Globally, since the detection of coronavirus in China at the end of last year, more than 1.1 million cases of infection and more than 58,700 deaths have been reported. Of all those affected by COVID-19, more than 226,000 people were cured.
