The cyber chief said the attack was unusual: “This is the first time we’ve seen anything like this. A sign of a new era of attacks.”

National cyber array head Yigal Ona unveiled Iran’s attempted attack on Israel’s water systems a month ago.
According to a report in News 12, UNA told the Cyber-Tech Digital Conference that “the attempt to attack Israel was coordinated and organized with the aim of damaging the humanitarian water system.” Una did not mention that this is Iran but said “this is not a cybercrime group but a state actor”.
“The word ‘speed’ is not enough to describe the hectic pace at which things are happening in cyberspace,” he explained. “We will remember last month as a point of change in the history of modern cyber wars. The attempt to attack Israel was coordinated and organized with the aim of damaging our humanitarian water system.”
“If the attack was successful, we would have to deal with some damage to the civilian population and even temporary water shortages or a mix of chlorine or other chemicals in the wrong dose that could have caused the disaster.”
The cyber chief said: “We are now preparing for the next stage that will eventually come. I am afraid this is just a sign of a new era where cyber-attacks are aimed at humanitarian purposes.
“There seem to be new rules of cyber warfare – it could be cyber-cyber or kinetic-anti-cyber – and everything will accrue to civilian-targeted warfare. The risks with the critical systems that are not defined are critical, “Ona concluded.
