Short history
The year 1871 had a special significance for the world of Romanian jurists of that time: on the one hand, it marked the founding of the Legal Society, under the influence of the Junimea cultural society, founded in 1865 and due to which, on March 1st, 1867, in Iasi, the well-known magazine Convorbiri literare saw the light of print; on the other hand, on December 16, 1871, the first issue of the “Dreptul” magazine was to appear – the oldest legal publication existing in today’s Romania.
With reference to the Legal Society – the first Romanian legal society – we reveal that it had Constantin Bosianu (1815-1882) as president, and in the position of vice-president Constantin Eraclide.
The publication of the journal “Dreptul” is the natural consequence of the achievement of the great modern reforms in the period 1862-1866, including the institutional-legislative one. We refer here to the adoption and entry into force of the civil and civil, criminal and criminal procedure codes, of the Constitution of 1866, as well as to the creation of western European-type judicial institutions (for example, the establishment of the High Court of Cassation and Justice, the new judicial organization, the modernization of the lawyer’s profession), as well as of the law faculties of the universities of Iasi and Bucharest, which gave a new impetus and imprinted ample horizons and legal publications.
