Those responsible for the Post Office Horizon scandal should be jailed, a government minister has said.

Those responsible for the Post Office Horizon scandal should be jailed, a government minister has said.

Kevin Hollinrake, the Post Office Minister, said the people behind the wrongful prosecution of hundreds of sub-postmasters “must be held to account”.

His comments mark the first time the Government has explicitly raised the prospect of criminal sanctions for those at fault.

It follows a week in which the public inquiry into the scandal heard that Post Office investigators acted like “mafia gangsters” towards innocent sub-postmasters wrongly accused of taking or losing money as a result of faulty software.
