
On Thursday, June 20, 2024, starting at 09.00, the international ethnology symposium dedicated to the Universal Day of Ia and the National Day of Folk Costumes opens.
The scientific event will take place with physical presence in the Small Hall of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova (Chisinau, 1 Stefan cel Mare and Sfânt Blvd.) and online on the ZOOM platform.

The event is organized by the Ministry of Culture, the Institute of Cultural Heritage of Chisinau, in partnership with the Institute of Ethnography and Folklore “Constantin Brăiloiu” of the Romanian Academy; Technical University of Cluj Napoca, North University Center of Baia Mare, Romania; Institute for Research, Development and Innovation, “Constantin Brâncuși” University of Târgu Jiu, Romania; Institute of Studies of Arts, Folklore and Ethnology “M. Rylskyi” of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine; Academy of Sciences of Moldova; “B.-P. Hasdeu” in Cahul.
The International Day of Ia is marked annually, on June 24, at the initiative of the online community La Blouse Roumaine. The first edition of the celebration entitled “Sânzienele dresses the Planet in IE” took place in June 2013. Universal Ia Day is currently celebrated in more than 50 countries.
On December 1, 2022, the decision on the inscription on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity was adopted under the title “The Art of the Blouse with Embroidery – An Element of Cultural Identity in Romania and the Republic of Moldova”.
Since June 26, 2016, the Folk Costume Day has been organized in the Republic of Moldova, since the first edition several festivals dedicated to folk costumes will be organized, in execution of the Parliament Decision no. 194 of November 19, 2015, by which the last Sunday of June is declared “Folk Costume Day”. The purpose of the celebration is to capitalize on the authentic Romanian folk costume and of the cohabiting ethnic groups in the republic, to get to know the component parts of the costume and its symbols, as well as to promote the techniques of making the folk costume nationally and internationally.
The People’s Costume Day was established by a decision of the Parliament and is celebrated every year, on the last Sunday of June.

Scientific researchers and people of culture interested in cultural heritage, folk traditions, folk costumes, culture, etc. are invited to the event.
