
On September 6, 2024, the leadership of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova had a meeting with researchers of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. The leadership of the Institute of Russia, Eastern European and Central Asian Studies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, represented by Prof. Tian Dewen, Deputy Director, Xu Gang, Deputy Head of the International Cooperation Division, Dr. Ju Hao and Dr. He Ting from the Department of Transformation and Integration Theory, discussed with the leadership of the Academy of Sciences the possibilities of scientific cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
The Academy of Sciences was represented by the President of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, Acad. Ion Tighineanu, the Vice-President corresponding member Svetlana Cojocaru, Academician Mihai Cimpoi, the President of the Advisory Council of Academicians, the General Scientific Secretary of the Academy of Sciences Dr. Liliana Condraticova, the head of the Academic Management and External Relations Section Dr. Tudor Braniște, etc.
The President of the ASM briefly presented the basic activity of the ASM, mentioning the role of the Academy as a strategic consultant to the Government, the organization of the process of public hearing of reports on scientific projects carried out with funding from the state budget, the organization of international conferences and public lectures on topics of major interest to society, such as peace, climate change, or the pandemic situation. The ASM president drew attention to the development dynamics of the scientific research field in China, which ranks in the first places in terms of the number of scientific publications in journals indexed in the Web of Science and SCOPUS databases.
China’s technological development and experience in technology transfer could help Moldova boost this spectrum of research and innovation. Being present at the meeting, Academician Mihai Cimpoi recalled about the Chinese translations of the writings of Mihai Eminescu, who in turn was fascinated by classical Chinese culture and poetry. The collaboration of acad. Bagpipes with writers and translators from China have been going on for several years, and there are already several volumes of poems translated into Chinese, which enjoy high appreciation from readers.
The head of the Chinese delegation gave an overview of the institution he represents, mentioning the founding in 1977 of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, which is currently composed of 31 research institutions and 45 scientific centers, where research is carried out in about 300 fields.
The CASS representatives showed interest in continuing the collaboration on the mutual promotion of the culture of both states, at the same time, a special interest is also held in the economic studies on identifying the strengths and scientific achievements of both countries and the initiation of mutually beneficial economic activities.
It should be noted that the first discussions on collaboration between the two institutions were initiated in 2019, favorable circumstances being created only this year, with the delegation’s visit to Chisinau.
Finally, the deputy director of the Institute of Studies on Russia, Eastern Europe and Central Asia invited the leadership of the Academy of Sciences to undertake a visit to China to boost scientific and cultural cooperation of researchers from both countries.
