The Academy of Sciences of Moldova and the Council of Rectors of the Republic of Moldova have signed a cooperation agreement aimed at strengthening the ties between academic institutions and researchers in the country. The event took place on October 9, in the Small Hall of the ASM. The document was officially signed by the President of the Academy of Sciences, Acad. Ion Tighineanu and the President of the Council of Rectors, the Rector of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Nicolae Testemitanu”, m.c. Emil Ceban.
The agreement aims to develop a sustainable partnership between the two institutions, aiming to promote fundamental and applied scientific research, but also to stimulate the integration of higher education with research and innovation activities. Among the objectives of the collaboration established under this agreement is to support scientific research in multiple fields, such as medicine, physics, genetics, microbiology and other key disciplines for the progress of science and national development. Both sides also expressed their readiness to support national, European and international scientific initiatives by facilitating participation in interdisciplinary projects and organizing conferences and workshops.

An essential point of this partnership is the promotion of young talents in the field of research. It provides for the active involvement of students and young researchers in scientific projects, giving them access to laboratories and facilitating their participation in research programmes and projects. The agreement will be valid indefinitely, with the parties having the possibility to introduce changes through additional protocols signed by both parties. Cooperation will be carried out through the organisation of working meetings, mutual consultations and support for joint projects. It also provides for ways to resolve any differences through direct negotiations.
In his speech at the opening of the event, the President of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, Acad. Ion Tighineanu, stressed that through this agreement, the Academy of Sciences of Moldova and the Public Association of the Council of Rectors reaffirm their commitment to actively contribute to the development of scientific research and to strengthening the ties between the academic and governmental environments. Also, Acad. Ion Tighineanu reiterated the importance of a close collaboration between the Academy of Sciences and universities, given that the ASM periodically organizes events such as public lessons, summer schools and other activities for young people. These initiatives represent valuable opportunities for students, who could be selected to participate, giving them a boost in developing curiosity and scientific interest.
In his turn, the rector of the State University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Nicolae Testemitanu”, Emil Ceban, wanted to specify that the decision was taken to establish a legal collaboration contract between the universities of Moldova and the Academy of Sciences of Moldova (ASM) and this topic was discussed at the Council of Rectors, where it was decided to publicly announce this initiative. He mentioned that this collaboration is important especially now, when the Universities of the Republic of Moldova have taken over a large part of the research, and this is an essential component of European integration. In this regard, the Collaboration Agreement between the Council of Rectors and the ASM will boost scientific research in Moldova and support its integration into the European Research Area.
