End-of-year interview with Acad. Ion #TIGHINEANU, President of the Academy of Sciences of #Moldova

On the occasion of the New Year 2025, we asked a few questions to Acad. Ion Tighineanu, President of the Academy of Sciences

of Moldova, to tell us about the outstanding achievements and problems of the Academy and the scientific community in the republic.

The Academy of Sciences of Moldova has managed to come to the attention of the international scientific community, organizing scientific and

cultural events of special significance. How was the year 2024 for the ASM in terms of international promotion and collaboration with academies in other countries?

Being among the promoters of the International Decade of Science for Sustainable Development, declared by the United Nations General Assembly on August 25, 2023,

the Academy of Sciences of Moldova actively participates in the promotion of the Decade.

In 2024 he contributed, as a member of the Earth-Humanity Coalition http://(https://earth-humanity.org/)

to the development of visions for the development of science and the use of scientific results to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

The activity within the International Scientific Council has made us better known in the global scientific environment and has facilitated our interaction

with several national and European academies.

For example, on June 12, 2024, we signed the Collaboration Agreement with the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences, and a few weeks later, in a joint meeting of the

Presidium of the ASM and the Presidium of the Lithuanian Academy, the actions and areas of collaboration were highlighted.

On a European scale, it is worth mentioning the fruitful collaboration with the European Academy of Sciences and Arts (EASA) based in Salzburg, Austria.

As part of this collaboration, in 2024 Prof. Klaus Mainzer, president of AEȘA, and Prof. Violeta Dinescu, dean of the “Arts” Section, visited the ASM and held public lessons.

Through the listed activities, the Academy of Sciences of Moldova has contributed to the promotion of the image of the Republic of Moldova in Europe and in the

world, thus contributing to the implementation of the country’s integration project into the European Union.
