On February 14, the Academy of Sciences of Moldova organized the Scientific Symposium “Grigore Vieru – 90. Covenant with Eminescu”, a special event, held both in the Azurie Hall and in online format, which brought together prominent personalities from the cultural world and academics. The opening of the event was marked by a remarkable performance by the Choir of the Public Company “Teleradio Moldova”, under the artistic direction of Gabriela Tocari. For the first time, the audience had the opportunity to listen to the songs of maestro Constantin Rusnac – “The Star of Our Language”, on the lyrics of Grigore Vieru, and the Requiem “Once Upon a Time Eminescu Asked Me”, an adaptation also signed by Constantin Rusnac. The soloists Taisia Caraman, Cristina Goncearova, Tatiana Costiuc, Ion Timofte and Alexei Digore, brought extra emotion and depth to this unique musical moment.
From the central tribune of the Azurii Hall, the president of the ASM, Ion Tighineanu, evoked the personality and invaluable contribution of Grigore Vieru to the promotion of the Romanian language and to the national rebirth. “Today we commemorate an eminent poet, a great servant of the Romanian language, honorary member and corresponding member of the Romanian Academy, Doctor Honoris Causa of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova. Literary critics called Grigore Vieru an Eminescu of Bessarabia,” said Ion Tighineanu. He stressed that Grigore Vieru was a symbol of cultural resistance and a fervent defender of the Romanian identity.
