History pulmonary rehabilitation in Romania
In Romania, the concept of medical rehabilitation emerged in 1922, while the concept of pulmonary rehabilitation began to develop in 1970.
“During the pandemic, the Handbook of Pulmonary Rehabilitation was published in New York, which summarizes the global experience in pulmonary rehabilitation, in which I played a central role.
The idea was mine, dating back to 2010, and the treatise was published in December 2020. Having been part of the board of the international organization CHEST for 3 years, I reached out to all my colleagues, prominent names in the field of pulmonary rehabilitation from the United States, Canada, Italy, France, Germany, and Romania, who contributed to the editing of the treatise. The pandemic also had a beneficial role – although I wrote the material many years ago, I still wanted to revise it, but I never found the time. When we were not allowed to admit patients, I made time to update everything. This is how this reference treatise on pulmonary rehabilitation came to be, with Prof. Darcy Marciniuk (Canada) as co-editor, a world-renowned figure in pulmonary rehabilitation , former president of CHEST. He invited me to Canada to see their programs, and I invited him to the events we organized in Romania.”
“Now we have the material published for the Romanian version. Very recently, the third volume dedicated to patients with covid-19 has also been published, which addresses post-covid-19 sindrome or long-covid-19 issues, edited by the Romanian Academy Publishing House under the coordination of Acad. Victor Voicu, where I have a chapter on “Pulmonary Rehabilitation in a Reference Clinic in Romania” said prof. Postolache
