The President of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, Acad. Ion Tighineanu, was the guest of the show “Good Morning“ on Moldova1, where he spoke about the role of science in society, about who can become an academician and how research is supported in the Republic of Moldova.

Acad. Ion Tighineanu stressed that the Academy of Sciences of Moldova is a space open to all those passionate about knowledge, regardless of age or social status. He mentioned the active involvement of the ASM in the dialogue with young people from gymnasiums and high schools, the organization of summer schools and the collaboration with world-class scientists, including Nobel Prize laureates.

“Our goal is to identify those curious children, who tend towards knowledge. Scientific research is a difficult job, but it brings enormous satisfaction when the results appear,” said Ion Tighineanu.

During the show, the ASM president emphasized the importance of character, perseverance and hard work to become an academician, noting that such a title is offered only to those who make significant contributions to the development of knowledge and become models for society.

Also, during the show, academician Ion Tighineanu also revealed the topic of research prospects in the Republic of Moldova in the context of European integration, expressing hope that the financial support for the field of science will increase, so that the system can develop, but not just survive. Another aspect discussed was the importance of knowing foreign languages, especially English, but also of a correct and elevated expression in Romanian.

Research is not just a profession, it is a calling“, concluded academician Ion Tighineanu, encouraging young people to build a solid foundation of knowledge and to follow their dreams with perseverance, because only through education and dedication can we assert ourselves in the modern world.
