Salt Typhoon cyber actors infiltrated the networks of multiple telecommunications companies, recklessly stole personal data belonging to millions of Americans, and in some instances surveilled communications—all in support of the Chinese Communist Party.

The expectation of privacy was violated not just in the United States but abused globally. Through the FBI’s investigation, our Washington Field Office notified hundreds of US victims and at least 80 countries where Salt Typhoon activity was detected.

Now, the FBI, in partnership with other US and foreign government agencies, has released a Joint Cybersecurity Advisory to educate and equip network defenders to mitigate and prevent Salt Typhoon activity on their networks. This release is deeply informed by government and industry investigations. It is a milestone in the Salt Typhoon story, but the story isn’t finished—we will keep pressing forward until those responsible are brought to justice. https://ic3.gov/CSA/2025/25082
