As a Nutritionist I always get asked what’s the secret to my glowing/healthy skin! The answer is not 1 single thing but rather a combination of things which will help your skin to breathe, thrive and glow.
Glowing skin isn’t about one miracle product or fad diet—it’s about the everyday habits that help your skin breathe, thrive, and reflect good health. As the body’s largest organ, your skin is a window into your overall wellbeing, nourish it properly and it will reward you with radiance.
Here are my 5 top tips to help you keep it healthy and glowing all year round!
1- Eat a varied and colourful diet, packed full of the plant-based foods, different colours provide different micronutrients and will help fight off those free radicals and harmful cells.
- Orange, reds and yellows – provide more vitamins A and C as well as carotenoids which support skin growth and repair.●Leafy Greens – provide more Magnesium, potassium, calcium and B Vitamins, helping skin to stay strong and resilient.
– Include more Omega 3’s in the diet, fatty acids help to lubricate the skin and keep it healthy. Not to mention they act as building blocks in the skin cells, strengthening the skins surface layers for a smoother, healthier and younger looking complexion. So include more avocado , nuts and oily fish in to your diet (Salmon, Mackerel and Sardines).
2- Keep well hydrated, as this prevents the skin from drying out and becoming flaky also making the skin look plumper and more radiant.
3- Exercise daily, at least 20-30mins per day, this will allow more blood flow to the skin and helps nourish skin cells and keep it healthy and hydrated.
4- Daily skincare habits are also key, so cleanse gently daily to remove dirt, oil and makeup, moisturize daily to maintain hydration, exfoliate 1-2 times/week to help remove dead skin cells and improve radiance and lastly use sunscreen SPF30+ even indoors to prevent sun damage.
5- Sleep is also very essential for good skin health, as getting enough rest will allow you to feel your best, allow your skin to look youthful and radiant. Not enough sleep will cause a dull complexion, dark circles and even dehydration.
So to summarise healthy glowing skin is all about taking care of your body inside and out and is a combination of long-term dietary and lifestyle changes, including: Eating the
rainbow, daily exercise, good skincare routine and getting enough sleep for growth and repair. Making sure you do all of these things will allow your skin to glow and be at its best.
