During the week of the Nobel Prize awards (October 6-12, 2025), the Republic of Moldova will be honored by the visit of two distinguished personalities: Prof. Hiroshi AMANO from Nagoya University in Japan, Nobel Prize laureate in Physics, and Prof. James ROTHMAN from Yale University in the USA, Nobel Prize laureate in Medicine. The illustrious scientists, who accepted the invitation from the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, will give lectures, participate in TV shows, and hold meetings with representatives of the academic community in the Republic of Moldova.
On the morning of October 7, 2025, Prof. Hiroshi AMANO will open the 7th Edition of the International Conference in the field of Nanotechnologies and Biomedical Engineering (ICNBME-2025, https://icnbme.sibm.md/), presenting during the first plenary session the report entitled ‘Why a poor university triggered the blue light-emitting diode revolution?’. The Conference opening will take place in the Magna Hall of the Technical University of Moldova https://icnbme.sibm.md/program.html
In the second half of October 7, Prof. AMANO will be a guest of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, where at 2:00 PM he will give a lecture entitled “Let’s work together to build a sustainable world” in front of students, pupils, and young researchers. After the lecture, there will be a ceremony presenting the renowned scientist with the insignia of honorary member of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova. According to the Resolution of the General Assembly of ASM, the title of honorary member was awarded to the Japanese scientist for remarkable contributions to the development of new efficient sources of light and fruitful collaboration with the academic environment of the Republic of Moldova. In this context, we will mention the report “The Economic Profit of Building a Renewable Energy Society,” presented by the renowned researcher during “Science Week” http://(https://www.asm.md/agenda-saptamanii-stiintei), organized for the first time at the Academy of Sciences of Moldova on the occasion of the institution’s 60th anniversary.
Prof. Hiroshi AMANO has greatly contributed to the success of the Summer Schools: on July 4, 2022, he delivered the lecture “Roadmap for achieving a carbon-neutral society with the help of new semiconductor materials” as part of the Summer School entitled “Innovations in Nanomedicine”.
