“The Role of Science in the Modern World – Artificial Intelligence: The Challenge of the 21st Century,” a major event organized by the Romanian Academy and the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, in partnership with the Gheorghe Ionescu-Șișești Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences, the Romanian Academy of Technical Sciences, the Romanian Academy of Medical Sciences, and the Romanian Academy of Legal Sciences.

On November 6, starting at 10:00 AM, the conference “The Role of Science in the Modern World – Artificial Intelligence. The Challenge of the 21st Century” will take place in the Aula of the Romanian Academy and the Azure Hall of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, a major event organized by the Romanian Academy and the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, in partnership with the Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences “Gheorghe Ionescu-Șișești”, the Romanian Academy of Technical Sciences, the Romanian Academy of Medical Sciences, and the Romanian Academy of Legal Sciences.

The conference will be opened by academician Ioan-Aurel POP, president of the Romanian Academy, and academician Ion TIGHINEANU, president of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova. Greeting messages will be delivered by Professor Peter GLUCKMAN, president of the International Scientific Council, and Professor James ROTHMAN, Nobel Prize laureate in Physiology or Medicine in 2013, from Yale University.

The conference will discuss science and technology in the context of the evolution of artificial intelligence, its impact on medicine, examining the benefits, major challenges, potential risks, and measures to maximize advantages. Additionally, new legal disciplines in the era of artificial intelligence, such as artificial intelligence law and “digital human” law, will be explored. The challenges and trends in computing infrastructure for artificial intelligence will be presented, as well as Romanian agricultural research in a changing world and new genomic techniques in the context of scientific and political debates. Last but not least, the role of culture and the arts in sustainable development will be highlighted.

A special moment of the conference will be the performance of the Sustainable Development Anthem “Blue Planet,” launched in Geneva on December 15, 2023, during the Closing Ceremony of the International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development.The conference will be held in a hybrid format, offering the possibility to participate both in person and online.
