The government led by Alexandru Munteanu received the confidence of the parliament in Chișinău, with the votes of 55 out of 101 deputies, and will be headed by a pro-European oriented economist who has not previously held political positions, according to Reuters, Moldpress, and Unimedia.
The new prime minister mentioned economic growth and the continuation of the pro-European path as priorities for the new government.
“We will focus on economic growth and continuing our strategic direction – the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union, an objective supported by the majority of citizens. We want this process to bring tangible benefits to people: investments, well-paid jobs, modern public services, and an efficient administration close to the citizens,” said Alexandru Munteanu, quoted by Agerpres.
He called for unity.“What we have achieved together in recent years represents remarkable progress. These results show us how much we can accomplish when we build together, always keeping a common goal in mind.
Let us unite our efforts for the good, prosperity, and European path of the Republic of Moldova,” added the new Prime Minister of Chișinău.

Who is Alexandru Munteanu, the new Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova
The new prime minister in Chișinău is 61 years old, and until now he has not been involved in political life and has not had visibility in the public sphere.Alexandru Munteanu was born in Chișinău and is an economist, university professor, and businessman, known for his work in the field of investments and involvement in international educational and cultural projects. He is the founder of the company 4i Capital Partners and of the French Alliance in the Republic of Moldova, as well as one of the co-founders of the American Chamber of Commerce in Moldova.
He graduated from the Faculty of Physics, after which he began his professional activity at the Institute of Applied Physics of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova. Later, he joined the Technical University of Moldova, where he was a lecturer in the course Theoretical Foundations of Electrical Engineering and held the position of vice-dean of the International Faculty.
After the creation of the National Bank of Moldova, Munteanu was appointed head of the Currency Operations Department, and later became deputy director of the Foreign Relations Department. He taught the Banks and Finance course at ULIM and pursued postgraduate studies at Columbia University in New York, specializing in international relations, banking, and finance. After completing his studies, he worked at the World Bank in Washington, D.C.In 1997, he returned to the Republic of Moldova, where he served as deputy director of the Center for Strategic Investigations and Reforms (CISR). Later, he was director of the WNISEF American Investment Fund representation and served as a member or chairman on the boards of directors of several companies in the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine.
Since 2007, he has led the Direct Investment Department of Dragon Capital in Ukraine, and in 2016 he founded 4i Capital Partners, an investment firm operating in Eastern Europe. Alexandru Munteanu was also a member and co-chair of the Business Council under the Stability Pact in Vienna, Austria, as well as president of the Board of Patrons of Pechersk School International (PSI) in Kyiv, Ukraine, accredited by the International Baccalaureate (IB). For his professional and civic merits, in 2006 he was awarded the title of Knight of the Legion of Honor (Légion d’Honneur) by the French Republic.
