The conference “The Role of Science in the Modern World – Artificial Intelligence. The Challenge of the 21st Century” will take place on November 6th, starting at 10:00 AM, simultaneously in the Aula of the Romanian Academy and the Azure Hall of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova.

This major event is organized by the Romanian Academy and the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, in partnership with the “Gheorghe Ionescu-Şişeşti” Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences, the Academy of Technical Sciences of Romania, the Academy of Medical Sciences of Romania, and the Academy of Juridical Sciences of Romania.

The conference will be opened by Academician Ioan-Aurel POP, President of the Romanian Academy, and Academician Ion TIGHINEANU, President of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova. Welcome messages will be delivered by Professor Peter GLUCKMAN, President of the International Science Council, and Professor James ROTHMAN, 2013 Nobel Laureate in Physiology or Medicine, from Yale University.

The conference agenda will cover science and technology within the context of Artificial Intelligence evolution, examining its impact on medicine, analyzing the benefits, major challenges, potential risks, and measures for maximizing advantages. Furthermore, new legal disciplines in the era of Artificial Intelligence, such as the Law of Artificial Intelligence and the Law of the “Digital Human,” will be explored. Presentations will address the challenges and trends in computing infrastructure for AI, as well as Romanian agricultural research in a changing world and new geonomic techniques in the context of scientific and political debates. Last but not least, the role of culture and arts in sustainable development will be highlighted.

A special moment of the conference will be the performance of the Sustainable Development Anthem, “Blue Planet,” which was launched in Geneva on December 15, 2023, during the Closing Ceremony of the International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development.
