Moldova's Academy of Sciences Joins Global Science Dialogue

Acad. Ion Tighineanu, the president of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, participated online in the quarterly meeting of the International Science Council (ISC).

During the meeting, Prof. Peter Gluckman, president of the ISC, Dr. Salvatore Aricò, executive director of the ISC, as well as Prof. Robbert Dijkgraaf, president-elect of the ISC, presented updated information regarding trends in the development of science in the context of global geopolitical changes, recent developments in the international scientific community, as well as the main events to be organized in the near future under the auspices of the International Science Council.

In his intervention, Prof. Peter Gluckman provided details about the preparations for the ISC Meeting and Scientific Dialogue under the theme ‘Science in a Complex World – Science for a Better Future,’ which will take place in Beijing, China, from October 19 to 24, 2026.

During the discussions, topics of major importance to the international scientific community were addressed, including research funding, support for fundamental research, respect for scientists’ expertise in setting research directions, as well as strengthening trust in science in contemporary society.

Prof. Francis P. Crawley, member of the Steering Group of the Forum for the Publication and Evaluation of Research, emphasized the essential role of science in society, noting that it can fully fulfill its mission “only when scientists refuse to subordinate their commitment to knowledge and truth to power structures, funding sources, or personal interests”.

We remind that Prof. Peter Gluckman, President of the International Science Council, will make an official visit to the Republic of Moldova from April 15–17, 2026, at the invitation of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova. He will be accompanied by Dr. Salvatore Aricò, Chief Executive Officer of the ISC.

During the visit, Prof. Peter Gluckman will give a public lecture entitled “Repositioning Science in an Uncertain and Fractured World?” and Dr. Salvatore Aricò will present the report “International Science Council: Science in Action in a Continuously Evolving and Uncertain Context.”
