Strengthening Science: Romanian and Moldovan Academies Unite in New Council

The Romanian Academy, together with the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, announces the establishment of the Romanian Academic Council – CAR, a platform for scientific cooperation at the highest level in the Romanian-speaking space, which will bring together the two founding academies and four specialized academies from Romania.

The launch ceremony of the new academic body will take place on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at 10 a.m., in the Hall of the Romanian Academy, and will consist of the signing of the establishment documents of the Romanian Academic Council, followed by a meeting with the press, during which the mission, objectives, and principles of organization and cooperation will be presented.

The Memorandum, the Establishment Agreement, and the CAR Statute will be signed by the presidents of the six academic institutions that are members of the Romanian Academic Council:

Romanian Academy,
Academy of Sciences of Moldova,
Academy of Legal Sciences of Romania,
Academy of Medical Sciences of Romania,
Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences “Gheorghe Ionescu-Șișești”,
Academy of Technical Sciences of Romania.

The Romanian Academic Council is established as a platform for inter-institutional academic cooperation, with the mission of strengthening scientific dialogue and interdisciplinary collaboration, as well as harnessing the intellectual potential of the academic community in analyzing and guiding the development of society.

Through its activity, the Romanian Academic Council will concretely contribute to the preparation of analyses, studies, and recommendations on major topics of public interest and will engage in supporting a common space for Romanian science and culture, integrated into the European and international knowledge circuit.

The establishment of the Romanian Academic Council represents a landmark moment for strengthening academic cooperation in the Romanian space, reaffirming the role of academic institutions as beacons of knowledge, intellectual dialogue, and public responsibility.

The Romanian Academic Council will operate under the coordination of the Romanian Academy, respecting the institutional autonomy of each participating academy.

The launch ceremony of the Romanian Academic Council will be followed by the first meeting of the Coordinating Council, during which the leadership structures will be elected.
