Dimitrie Cantemir Medal Awarded to ISC Leaders

A proud day for the ISC.

In recognition of their outstanding contributions to the promotion of global scientific cooperation and international science diplomacy, ISC President Sir Peter Gluckman was awarded the “Dimitrie Cantemir” Medal, the highest distinction of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, while ISC CEO Dr Salvatore Aricò received the “Nicolae Milescu Spătarul” Medal.

In his address, Sir Peter spoke about the mounting pressures facing science today: eroding public trust, short-term funding cycles and technologies like AI outpacing the governance designed to manage them. Yet his message was not one of pessimism but of purpose. Science, rooted in cross-cultural foundations and shared inquiry, remains the closest thing humanity has to a universal language, and the scientific community must rise to that responsibility.

Dr. Aricò echoed that spirit, reflecting on ISC that is nearly 300 members strong and growing because the future of science belongs to everyone, not only those with the most resources today.
