The Academy of Sciences of Moldova has elected new honorary members, full members, and corresponding members – renowned personalities in the world of science.

During the VIII Session of the General Assembly, the event represents a milestone in the academic life of the institution, dedicated to recognizing excellence in research and evaluating scientific performance.

The selection process took place in several stages, in accordance with the legislation in force and the institution’s regulations. The applications, submitted by the science sections of ASM, were analyzed by expert committees and examined during sectional meetings, evaluating scientific results, the impact of research, and the candidates’ contributions to the development of their fields of expertise.

Following the debates and the vote of the General Assembly, Emil Ceban, Boris Boincean, Veaceslav Ursachi, and Ion Hadârcă were elected as full members. Additionally, the General Assembly appointed new corresponding members: Olga Cernețchi, Leonid Voloșciuc, Liubomir Chiriac, and Liliana Condraticova.

The four full members stand out through their significant scientific contributions and sustained academic activity.

Emil Ceban has distinguished himself in the field of urology and andrology through the development of modern methods of diagnosis and personalized treatment, contributing to improving patients’ quality of life and the training of specialists.

Boris Boincean is known for his research in agroecology and for promoting sustainable agriculture, aimed at adapting agricultural systems to climate change and maintaining soil fertility. Veaceslav Ursachi has opened new research directions in the physics of semiconductor materials, with his results being utilized in the development of electronic and optoelectronic technologies.

Ion Hadârcă is notable for his complex activity in literature, research, and public life, contributing significantly to the promotion of the Romanian language and culture, as well as to the development of studies dedicated to Cantemir’s work.

The new corresponding members were also appreciated for their consistent scientific results.

Olga Cernețchi stood out in obstetrics and gynecology by developing modern concepts regarding the assessment of maternal risks and the management of high-risk pregnancies.

Leonid Voloșciuc contributed to the development of organic agriculture and biological plant protection methods, devising innovative solutions applied in practice.

Liubomir Chiriac achieved significant results in topological algebra and its applications, including in fields such as cryptography and artificial intelligence.

Liliana Condraticova is notable for interdisciplinary research in the field of cultural heritage and ethnology, playing an important role in its valorization and promotion within the European context.

On April 23, the Academy of Sciences of Moldova (ASM) appointed new honorary members.

During the 8th Session of the General Assembly of full and corresponding members, paying tribute to internationally renowned personalities for their remarkable contributions to the development of science and for their active role in strengthening academic cooperation.

The decision was made following a rigorous evaluation process, carried out in accordance with legal provisions and academic regulations. The candidacies, submitted by the science sections of the ASM, were examined in specialized assemblies, and the activities of the candidates were presented by expert committees, which highlighted their outstanding scientific achievements, the international impact of their work, and the contributions made to the development of collaborative relations with the Republic of Moldova.

The new honorary members of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova are world-renowned scientists and consistent promoters of international scientific cooperation.

From the field of life sciences, Professor James Edward Rothman, laureate of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2013, recognized for his fundamental discoveries concerning the mechanisms of vesicular transport in cells, and academician Victor Voicu, a prominent figure in medicine and pharmacology, have been honored.

In the field of exact and engineering sciences, Professor Kornelius Nielsch, a leading specialist in materials physics and nanotechnologies, Professor Klaus Mainzer, known for his contributions in the philosophy of science and artificial intelligence, as well as Academician Horia-Nicolai Teodorescu, noted for his research in intelligent systems and their applications, were chosen.

In the field of social, economic, humanistic sciences and the arts, Professor Liviu-Bogdan Ciucă, a representative personality of legal sciences and public life, and Professor Pompiliu Crăciunescu, appreciated for his innovative approaches in the research of Romanian literature and culture, were appointed.
