Moldova’s Progress: Transformation Driven by Business, Science, and Investment

When looking at Moldova today, it becomes clear that its progress is neither mechanical—driven by cold statistics—nor is it something imposed from the outside. In the truest sense, it is the conscious, collective effort of people determined to build an integrated, stable, and dignified society. This transformation is most visible where good ideas meet capital and vision: in business innovation, research laboratories, and growing investor confidence.

A tree symbolizing growth and prosperity stands in a serene landscape, adorned with the flags of Moldova and the EU. People from diverse backgrounds gather around the tree, holding devices and plants, symbolizing unity and progress.
1. Business Moving into the Future: Tech and Digitalization

Moldova has long outgrown the stereotype of being an exclusively agrarian economy. Today, its main economic engine is digital.

  • A Magnet for Tech: Through the Moldova Innovation Technology Park (MITP) and its unique tax model—a simple 7% flat tax on turnover—the country has successfully attracted hundreds of international companies, establishing itself as a genuine tech hub in Eastern Europe.
  • The State in the Citizen’s Pocket: This change is felt in daily life as well. Driven by initiatives like the government app EVO and the massive digitalization of public services for entrepreneurs, bureaucracy is steadily being replaced by quick clicks, saving businesses both time and money.
2. Science That Matters: Chisinau on the Map of Global Elites

True progress does not mean just importing turnkey technology or accumulating equipment; it requires local intellect and global connection. This is where the Moldovan academic community plays a vital role.

  • Nobel Laureates and Academic Unity: The Academy of Sciences of Moldova (ASM) has successfully put the capital city on the global academic map. By organizing high-caliber international conferences and through its International Scientific Council, the Academy regularly brings world-class scientific minds to Chisinau, including honorary members who are Nobel Prize laureates.
  • The Romanian Academic Council: A foundational pillar of this integration and openness is the Romanian Academic Council. The Memorandum, the Establishment Agreement, and the Statute of this elite joint body are officially signed by the presidents of its six member academic institutions: the Romanian Academy, the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, alongside the four specialized branch academies—the Academy of Legal Sciences of Romania, the Academy of Medical Sciences of Romania, the “Gheorghe Ionescu-Șișești” Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences, and the Academy of Technical Sciences of Romania. This historic synergy unifies the scientific landscape across the Prut River and offers local researchers a unique opportunity to collaborate directly with major laboratories worldwide.
3. Investment: Trust in a European Future

Moldova’s status as a candidate for European Union membership has fundamentally changed how international investors view the country. Risk has decreased, and strategic opportunities have surged.

  • Sectors in Full Bloom: Foreign capital is no longer limited to traditional industries. It is flowing heavily into Free Economic Zones (FEZs), automotive components, electronics, renewable energy, and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO). The country is steadily modernizing its infrastructure to ensure fast connections to European transport networks, providing a solid foundation for long-term operations.
