Celebrating 65 Years of the Academy of Sciences in Moldova

Chisinau, June 2026 – The academic, scientific, university, and cultural community on both sides of the Prut River is preparing for a landmark historical moment. On June 12, 2026, at 10:00 AM, in the Azure Hall of the ASM, a Festive Session will be held to dedicate a double celebration: the 65th anniversary of the founding of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova and the 80th anniversary of the creation of the first academic-type research institutes in the Republic of Moldova.

The event will bring together members of the ASM, prominent personalities of scientific life, and guests of honor of international stature, constituting a historic opportunity to reaffirm the Academy’s role in promoting excellence and in integrating Chisinau’s scientific community into the European and global space of knowledge.

Guests of Honor and Nobel Laureates: Science Without Borders

The global scale of the event is confirmed by the presence of legendary figures from world and European science who will honor the Presidium of the ASM:

Prof. Randy Schekman – Nobel Laureate in Physiology or Medicine (University of California/Berkeley, USA) and Honorary Member of the ASM.
Prof. Klaus Mainzer – President of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts (Salzburg).
Acad. Marius Andruh – President of the Romanian Academy.
Prof. Bogdan Ciucă – President of the Academy of Legal Sciences of Romania.
Acad. Asaf Hajiyev – Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation.

The presence of elite educational leaders and government officials, such as Dan Perciun (Minister of Education and Research) and Acad. Emil Ceban (Minister of Health), underscores that academic education and cross-border cooperation remain strategic national priorities.

The official opening of the session will be delivered by Acad. Ion Tighineanu, President of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, under the highly suggestive title: “The Academy of Sciences of Moldova at 65: A Bridge Between National Research and Global Science”. During the ceremony, the insignia of Honorary Member of the ASM will be presented to exceptional personalities, including Prof. Klaus Mainzer and Prof. Bogdan Ciucă, President of the Academy of Legal Sciences of Romania—a key moment that consolidates the elite academic partnership in the field of law and social sciences. The agenda also includes the presentation of ASM membership cards and the official launch of the Encyclopedic Album of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova.

Summer Schools and Youth Access to the World’s Elites

This historic anniversary also reflects the success of mentorship projects aimed at the next generation, such as the Summer School “The Path to Scientific Discoveries” and other recent interactive activities. For young researchers, students, and pupils in the Republic of Moldova, the opportunity to share a room with a Nobel Laureate or with the presidents of European academies of law and fundamental sciences represents an absolute opening of doors toward peak performance.
