Chișinău, July 30, 2026 — Today, July 30, 2026, the President of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, Acad. Ion Tighineanu, held an official meeting with Her Excellency Ms. Dong Zhihua, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Moldova.

The dialogue hosted at the ASM headquarters marks a significant milestone in the maturation and intensification of the bilateral scientific partnership, reaffirming that the academic bridges established during the earlier working visit of the ASM leadership to Wuhan University of Technology are not merely benchmarks of bilateral cooperation, but reflect a broader vision: the deeply interconnected nature of contemporary science as a driver of human evolution.

High-Level Institutional Representation
The meeting was attended by distinguished members of the ASM leadership and representatives of key scientific sections:
- Acad. Eva Gudumac, Vice-President of ASM, Coordinator of the Life Sciences Section;
- Acad. Ion Hadârcă, Vice-President of ASM, Coordinator of the Social, Economic, Humanities, and Arts Section;
- Acad. Boris Boincean;
- Acad. Boris Găină;
- Dr. Tudor Braniște, Head of the Academic Management and External Relations Section.
Visionary Continuity and Educational Excellence
During the discussions, it was emphasized that joint Moldovan-Chinese initiatives do not constitute isolated actions, but rather a continuous spectrum of knowledge development:
- Expanding International Cooperation: The strategic partnership strengthened in Wuhan gains fresh momentum through the diplomatic support of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, aiming for direct connections between the ASM, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
- Vitality of Academic Exchanges: The active involvement of the Chinese scientific community in youth-oriented projects — exemplified by the keynote lectures delivered by Prof. Xiao-Yu Yang (Wuhan University of Technology, Honorary Member of the ASM) at the Summer School “Path to Scientific Discoveries” (organized in partnership with the Romanian Academy) — demonstrates that cross-border knowledge transfer is essential for mentoring future generations.
- Strategic Initiatives: The upcoming launch of the International Interdisciplinary School for Master’s and Doctoral students (in direct partnership with Wuhan University of Technology) and the organization of the Moldovan-Chinese Forum on Chernozem Agriculture in Chișinău this autumn.
Diplomatic Appreciation and Reaffirmation of Institutional Support
For her part, Her Excellency Ambassador Dong Zhihua commended the positive trajectory of scientific cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and the People’s Republic of China and warmly welcomed the organization of the Moldovan-Chinese Forum on Chernozem Agriculture, highlighting that the Republic of Moldova possesses valuable research potential and recognized expertise in this strategic field.
Her Excellency reaffirmed the firm commitment of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China to supporting joint scientific events and strengthening the ongoing dialogue between the academic communities of both nations. During the discussions, the Ambassador expressed full readiness to support the deepening of collaboration between scientists from Moldova and China, including by facilitating direct links between the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
Furthermore, Her Excellency emphasized the importance of intensifying exchanges of researchers, professors, and students, developing joint training programs, and strengthening partnerships between research and higher education institutions in the Republic of Moldova and the People’s Republic of China.
Science as a Global Network Subsumed under Evolution
The central premise arising from this meeting resides in the recognition that science cannot thrive in isolation. In a world defined by complex challenges, interdisciplinarity and international cooperation become evolutionary imperatives.
Through mutual openness, intensified academic mobility, and the joint leverage of cognitive resources, the Academy of Sciences of Moldova and its Chinese partners confirm a fundamental truth: societal and technological progress is the direct outcome of an interconnected science without borders.
