„I would point to three structural reforms in the new knowledge-based economy: the reform of the education system, where we still fail to keep pace with the changes brought by the current industrial revolution; multi-annual and predictable funding for research; and the systematic connection of research to the real economy through functional technology transfer mechanisms, without neglecting fundamental research, which is equally important. Fundamental research is an ornament of our spirit; its consequences, when properly conducted, are just as important as those of research aimed at practical applications. Most of the time, the latter stem from fundamental research. The budget allocated to research is insufficient and, in some places, whatever exists is wasted in vain behind questionable evaluations.”

„In the concert of international research, our researchers can find their place only through original solutions and projects. Romania needs its own research, computing, and data capacities. I am optimistic and believe that, in certain directions, Romanian research will be extremely efficient. Let us not forget that we have successful IT companies (and soon, I hope, AI companies).”

„Trust is rebuilt through real career prospects, not through speeches: predictable funding for young teams, modern infrastructures, and a clear institutional path from a doctorate to a stable position. This is the real stake of human capital policy. We cannot ignore the fact that, in recent years, some progress has been made with, unfortunately, little effect. Competitions for research projects dedicated to young teams are organized, but the allocated budget is small, and the regularity of these competitions is completely unpredictable and, therefore, inefficient. The postdoctoral research system is far from the Western one, validated for many decades. The organization of the teaching and research body in universities is outdated and dangerously closed, discouraging the attraction of educated youth.”
