The congress will conclude on May 17 with an Anniversary Concert at the Romanian Athenaeum, starting at 1:30 PM, performed by the Violoncellissimo ensemble, conducted by Maestro Marin Cazacu, general director of the “George Enescu” Philharmonic.

This congress is evidence of our unity, brought together by the same ideals: promoting values, traditions, and science at the highest level. In recent years, the activities carried out by the Academy of Medical Sciences have been appreciated both nationally and internationally, and the partnerships we have with the Romanian Academy, the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Moldova, the Academy of Technical Sciences, the Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences ‘Gheorghe Ionescu-Șișești’, the Academy of Legal Sciences in Romania, the European Federation of Academies of Medicine, and the Inter Academy Partnership (IAP) are proof of the power of authentic science, untainted by ignorance or false science.

It is useful to constantly point out that, throughout its existence, the Academy of Medical Sciences has constituted a high-level scientific forum for the activity and recognition of medical elites in the field of medical and pharmaceutical research. I want to emphasize some of the coordinates that we have in mind in our Academy’s activities, namely, the enhancement of the human, scientific, and intellectual potential of Romanian medicine. We also wish to highlight the exceptional scientific potential of the members of the 5 main sections of the Academy, the associated researchers, and the entire professional community. The Academy of Medical Sciences is, above all, a space for dialogue and collaboration, an environment for the exchange of ideas, a vector for stimulating researchers, and a vehicle through which their results enter the circuit of national and international medical knowledge.

The Academy of Medical Sciences is always searching for answers to major medical challenges, engaging in dialogue with the scientific community both nationally and internationally in the field of research,” stated Professor Emeritus Doctor Mircea Beuran, president of the Academy of Medical Sciences.

At the same time, the president of the ASM highlighted the active involvement of the Academy of Medical Sciences of Romania in the ‘One Health’ projects, which represent a very important point for the health of future generations and for the healthy future of the planet.

The Academy of Medical Sciences was established in 1935 through Law no. 91, approved by the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies, with the title of the Academy of Medicine, being, historically, among the first four scientific forums in Europe after those in France, Italy, and Spain.

The founding law was promulgated by King Carol II, through Royal Decree no. 176, during a period when Romania was making significant strides towards modernization and scientific progress.

This fact was made possible due to the efforts of Professor Doctor Daniel Danielopolu, one of the brightest minds in Romanian medicine, who became the Permanent Secretary of the Academy until 1948, when the Academy of Medicine was dissolved by the communist regime. In 1969, through Decree No. 590 of the State Council, the Academy was reestablished by the Council of Ministers. After 1989, the Academy of Medical Sciences was reorganized, and in 2004, through Law No. 264, it regained the responsibilities it had since its establishment in 1935.
